Capital Funds Campaign Status
A peer-to-peer fundraising campaign was launched in November, 2017. Contributions to this campaign have been from individuals or close personal connections with the friends and families of our boxers, cornermen, and volunteers. In the meantime, a fundraising booklet was developed as a tool to generate awareness about the programs at Day One Fitness. The peer-to-peer fundraising efforts will continue, but the campaign will now also expand into the community as we reach out to local businesses for support.
As this journey started, it continues today - directed by God. Doors opened up as soon as we discovered that we would need to move from our current location. Through these blessings, we located our land for our Forever Home and closed on the property in January, 2018. Our new facility will be located in Columbia County, Georgia, at the previous site of Adventure Crossing. We are on our way to ensuring the long-term availability of this program!
This community we live in continues to amaze me and inspire me. We have had local companies step in to support our efforts at reduced rates, with in-kind donations, and with pro-bono services. We were excited to have begun work on the drawings, and were looking forward to getting our permits as quickly as possible, when we came to the realization that building at this time was not going to meet our immediate need to relocate. As such, we began our search for an existing structure that could meet our needs either temporarily or permanently.
Again, God provided and has met our needs. We relocated to our new facility on October 19, 2018, and began having our first classes in our new location on October 22, 2018. We were so blessed to have found an 8,000 square foot facility that is 100% heated and cooled. It meets and exceeds our current need for capacity, allowing us wonderful opportunities for growth in participant numbers as well as programs. This means that we will be able to serve many more people in the near future.
Although we have met our immediate need to relocate, we are still focused on completing our capital funds campaign and meeting our goal! This is an essential element of our long-term sustainability plan. We must pay for this property in full as promptly as possible, and can only do so with financial support from the community. Please note that if you have been monitoring our progress via this page, the thermometer has been updated to only include cash amounts. Since we are not pursuing the building of a new facility at this time, the in-kind donations and pro-bono services have been removed, thereby causing a drop in the thermometer.
I am thrilled to announce that were able to fully utilize the opportunity we were given with matching funds during the month of August and September, 2018. We received just over $50,000 in donations during those two months, and received a full match of $50,000 from generous donors who partnered together. Then in early 2019, we were awarded an unrestricted $20,000 grant from the CSRA Parkinson Support Group. The support has continued to come in throughout 2019 in the form of donations from individuals and businesses in our community. In addition, our first annual AD/PD Birdies for Brain Health Charity Golf Event was a success, raising just over $23,000. Our total donations received to date towards our capital funds campaign are now just over $280,000. Thank you for all your generous support to date, and we look forward to continuing to partner with you all.
We encourage you to stay connected with our fundraising efforts. Our second annual AD/PD Birdies for Brain Health Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020, at Woodside Plantation Country Club (1000 Plantation Drive, Aiken, SC). Hope to see you all soon!
